and how to attract them. Information provided on adult and larval
identification, habitat preferences and important nectar plants, host
plants. Room required for slide show presentation portion of program.

Description:
A general overview of the steps needed to start and maintain a
successful butterfly garden. Information provided on butterfly life
history, several common local butterfly species, key garden components,
adult nectar source and larval host plant choice, design, and
maintenance. Live butterflies and/or larvae will be featured when
available. A good introduction for beginners.
Topic: Advanced Butterfly Gardening
Description:
A detailed program for developing a successful butterfly garden.
Whether staring from scratch or modifying an existing landscape,
helpful information will be provided on butterfly biology, key garden
components, native plant use, nectar & host plant choice, site
preparation, design, maintenance, natural pest management, &
enjoyment. Live butterflies and/or larvae will be featured when
available. Can be given as a series with butterfly garden basics.
All programs have a fee as listed below, and ALL fees go to the
nonprofit Ecological Education Center, Inc (INSTAR Center) to support
our educational and research programs.
- 1 hour presentation (60-90 min.) $150.00
- Each additional hour $100.00
- Half Day (3 hours) $300.00
Mileage/travel
charges outside of the Hilton Head, Bluffton, or Hardeeville area
should be negotiated when arrangements are made.
Programs are available 7 days a week excluding holidays. Reservations
are necessary and require a minimum of 14 days advance notice. Prior to
each program, we can provide nursery/garden center staff with a
detailed list of the plant species and other products that will be
highlighted so arrangements can be made to order additional stock if
desired.
